November 2010 -  ONE YEAR ANNIVERSARY

 

Harley and I have experienced a great bond this year.  I'm proud of the clear communication and  confidence we have built in each other.  Check out the 2011 page for Harley's updates.

OCTOBER 2010
Harley won INTERMEDIATE DIVISION 1st place at the Leon, NY Extreme Cowboy Family Event.  Harley is having fun with "Back in the Saddle" club and Barn Parties!

SEPTEMBER

Lori has to go back to Bemus Point Elementary School where she teaches fourth grade.  Harley's riding will get cut back to about 25 times a month. We are slowing it down.  No more barrels or poles for a bit.  We're going back to basics, trail riding and obstacles.  Fun Fun!

AUGUST 2010

Harley is going to two more rodeos this summer to "season" him.  We are WAY out of the money (about 1.5 seconds), but Harley has needed the time at rodeos to acclimate himself to the flags, banners, loud noises, bulls crowds and Lori's performance anxiety stress! 

He currently stands #1 in the Extreme Cowboy Race that is a five week series.

JULY

After 6 weeks of healing, Harley is back at it again.  We are working on Extreme Cowboy obstacles, barrel racing, pole bending and reconditioning.  I am bringing Harley to rodeos to get him used to the sites and sounds of rodeo.

APRIL
I will continue to work on using independent aids with Harley, attempting to get lighter and lighter with my cues.
 
I'm trying to pass Charmayne James, "Are you ready to barrel race" test this month.  Basically it tests your communication skills and your horse's responsiveness.  In a nutshell, the horse needs to rate, collect turn and stop.  If he can pass the test, Harley will  be started on Barrels this month.
